Official PlayStation WebSite Update

The official US PlayStation website has been a far more inferior experience than the the official XBox LIVE website since it’s inception. If you haven’t been paying attention, Sony has made some incremental updates over the past few years that has added some functionality to the site that make it seem less depressing to visit. Sony has recently revamped the entire look of the website, although it doesn’t appear that they added any new features. They’ve went from a dark static theme to a white background with more seemingly dynamic content. Overall it’s much more pleasing to the eye.

If you haven’t visited the website in a long time (and no one could blame you if you haven’t), here’s some of the functions they have added since the launch of the PS3:

  • View your friends list and online status of friends.
  • View your own trophies and compare them with friends.
  • Setup a portable ID (similar to XBL web badges).
  • Manage some PSN settings such as billing information.
  • Maintain a list of games you currently own, as well as keep a wish list.
  • Rate and review currently available games.

I might have missed a few things, but there’s certainly much more to do now than before. While it’s still nowhere near the level of the Xbox LIVE site, it’s improving. I only hope they integrate the site with the PlayStation Store soon.
