E32010 – XIO™ Virtual Gaming System

John Random spent some time demoing the ForceTek exoskeleton on day one of E3. The exoskeleton actually makes you feel like you’re performing in-game actions by resisting movements. This feature reinforces a player’s muscle memory so that over time, the peripheral becomes an extension of your body’s natural movement. It effectively trains you to perform repeat in-game actions. The playable games at the show were a flight simulator, Call Of Duty and a basketball game. I’ll let you be the judge, but by the reaction John had to playing with these things, they’re going to be a big hit.

Though John is only wearing the “sleeves”, ForceTek also has shoulder, back and lower body attachments that crank this system up to 11. The XIO™ Virtual Gaming System is built with an on-board computer with ability to output to a piece of headgear. This makes the system totally self-contained for indoor and outdoor multi-player action.

Frank Joutras, V.P. of Product development at ForceTek said the device should be available to the general public next year some time. Though they don’t have any pricing available as of yet, I can’t imagine that it’s going to be very inexpensive.
