Microsoft wouldn’t be Microsoft if it weren’t price gouging it’s customers. Beginning November 1st, XBox LIVE Gold memberships will increase to the following for US, Canada, and Mexico only:
- 1 Month: $9.99 (up from $7.99)
- 3 Months: $24.99 (up from $19.99)
- 12 Months: $59.99 (up from $49,99)
You should still be able to find cheaper prices at sites like Amazon (time to stock up), but it seems like Microsoft is unaware of our current economic crisis. As much as people love video games, when it comes down to choosing to eat or play games, the choice is pretty clear for most. It remains to be seen how this price increase will affect the bottom line for Xbox LIVE, but as LIVE’s price goes up, PSN looks more and more attractive, even if it is considered inferior. I think I’ll be buying all my multiplayer titles on PS3 from here on out.
So, will you renew your Gold membership or “stick it to the man”?
UPDATE: Microsoft has a price lock renewal special on their website. You can renew an additional year for only $39.99 before the price hike. Unfortunately my Gold subscription lapses before Gears of War 3 hits shelves, so I might have no choice…

This is so lame. I can’t believe Microsoft is doing this. Their service already costs too damn much!!!
Well i guess seeing how Bill Gates is one the wealthiest people in the world, he doesn’t realize that we’re in a bloody RECESSION!!! This seriously does stink a big steaming one on the chest for sure.
i’m wondering if it’ll work if i just buy the pre paid $50 gold memberships now and be able to use them when the price hike is in effect. hmmmm… *ponders*
